A preliminary expert assessment commissioned by the police found that the cause of the fire at the school in Wierzbowa, which broke out on 25 December, was a blocked chimney. Gromadka Commune Head Dariusz Pawliszczy has not seen the assessment, but he is certain that the fire was started by a person. The village residents share his opinion.
“We are absolutely convinced that it was arson,” says the commune head. “The chimney was dismantled after the fire. It was spotlessly clean. Anyone who wanted to squeeze through it wearing a white shirt would have come out without a stain. It was 200% arson,” he adds. Moreover, Boleslawiec.org has learned that the circle of suspects has narrowed to three people. The arsonist is expected to be caught soon.
The damage caused by the fire is estimated at approximately PLN 300,000. Commune Head Dariusz Pawliszczy assures that the school renovation will be completed before 1 September 2008. Until then, however, the children will study in a building provided free of charge to the Wierzbowa Village Development Association by Mr and Mrs Paluszek.
