Two tanker trucks collided at the fuel terminal—a simulated, fortunately, incident that began firefighting exercises at the storage depot of Polski Koncern Naftowy "Orlen" on Kościuszki Street. Fuel spilled and a fire broke out.
A person inside one of the tankers was injured and had to be evacuated. The firefighters extinguished the fuel tanks and tried to prevent the fire from spreading.
While securing the area, one of the tankers developed a leak. The firefighters’ task was to cut off and stop the flow of fuel.
Exercises of this kind are held regularly. As Robert Brzeziński, Deputy Commander of the Bolesławiec County State Fire Service, acknowledges, the location of the simulated operation was not chosen by accident. According to Brzeziński, a tanker fire can occur at virtually any petrol station, so firefighters should be very well prepared for this type of operation.
The smoothly conducted firefighting operation was led by Grzegorz Kocon, commander of the Bolesławiec State Fire Service. Delegates from the Environmental Protection Inspectorate and Bolesławiec County Head Cezary Przybylski observed the exercises.
