On Saturday, the first match of the fourth-division volleyball competition was played at the sports hall by I LO. TOP Bolesławiec faced Ren-But Złotoryja. TOP controlled the first set from start to finish. At times, our team’s lead was 10 points. The Bolesławiec players played confidently and defeated the visitors 25:20.
The second set began with both teams trading points. Our players could not find a way to deal with the Złotoryja players’ “tips.” Midway through the set, the visitors took a one-point lead. The evenly matched battle continued until the score was 21:21. The end of the set became tense. Fortunately, the Bolesławiec players managed to win by two points (25:23).
The third set belonged to the visitors. When the Złotoryja players led 6:1, TOP coach Bogusław Mienculewicz called a timeout. Unfortunately, our players continued to play poorly. The Bolesławiec players made many errors: touching the net, a lack of understanding when setting, attacks out of bounds, serves out of bounds and reception problems. The visitors, meanwhile, played consistently and did not surrender their lead, winning 25:21.
The match was decided in the fourth set. The beginning was even, but the TOP players once again began making errors. The biggest problems came when setting attacks from the so-called quick ball. Several times, our players were unable to set the ball effectively. Reception difficulties added to the problems. The final moments of the decisive set were very tense. With the score at 22:22, a tiebreak seemed likely, but several successful plays by Wojtek Marcinkiewicz discouraged the visitors. In the closing stages, the Złotoryja players made several errors and ultimately lost the fourth set 22:25. TOP Bolesławiec defeated Ren-But Złotoryja 3:1 (25:20, 25:23, 21:25, 25:22).
