Early Monday morning, various objects began flying from one of the balconies of a block of flats on Konstytucji 3 Maja Street. A Reader informed us about the incident. Among other things, an armchair, flowerpots and clothes were found on the lawn in front of the building. A drinking spree had been taking place in the apartment all night. Nine people took part: a woman and seven men, all aged between 18 and 26, as well as a 17-year-old girl. All the men were heavily intoxicated. Their blood alcohol levels ranged from 1.5 to 2.8 per mille. The girls had also been drinking alcohol, but less.
The police detained all the adult participants in the drinking spree. The 17-year-old girl was handed over to her parents. During the detention, the men were aggressive—they struggled with police officers and used vulgar language. On Tuesday, all eight adults were punished by the court in expedited proceedings. Two men were each fined PLN 1,000. Five were sentenced to between 10 and 20 days in detention. The young woman must complete 20 hours of community service, while the case of the 17-year-old will be handled by the family court.
The court also decided that the verdict would be made public. These are not all the costs that the participants in the drinking spree will incur. In addition to the penalties imposed by the court, those convicted must cover the court proceedings’ costs and pay PLN 350 each for the medical examination carried out at the police station. The examination was not conducted in a hospital because there were concerns that the aggressively behaving men might damage hospital premises.
The police had been informed several times that loud “parties” were taking place in one of the apartments. Unfortunately, warnings helped only for a short time. When the police intervened, the fans of loud entertainment would disperse to their homes and then... return to the apartment on Konstytucji Street. This went on for several days. Only the detention of the partygoers brought an end to the drinking sprees that had been a nuisance to the neighbors.
