Broken chains on some pieces of play equipment, uncut grass, litter—this is a brief description of the playground on Łukasiewicza Street. Crushed beer cans, broken bottles and other rubbish are scattered around the playground. And when several-year-old children are involved, an accident is not difficult to imagine. The absolute height of this rubbish-strewn surrealism, however, is represented by two mattresses that someone casually dumped here.
“Nothing bad has happened here yet,” says Mr Tomasz, a resident of Jana Pawła II Street. The Bolesławiec resident often comes here with his young daughter. “Still, someone should take care of this,” Mr Tomasz adds, pointing to the exceptionally lush grass.
It looks somewhat as though the city authorities have devoted all their attention to building new playgrounds. The old ones, meanwhile, are treated neglectfully. No one takes care of the cleanliness of such a popular place. It is one of the largest facilities of this kind in Bolesławiec, located very close to the town centre. Many parents bring their children here.
The vast majority of the equipment appears very solid. Only a few pieces pose a potential threat. Fortunately, as we saw with our own eyes, cautious parents avoid the broken elements of the playground. Nevertheless, it would be worthwhile to take care of the cleanliness and safety of this place. We must not allow a tragedy to happen!
Ryszard Brachowski, a deputy inspector from the Municipal Department of the City Hall, told Boleslawiec.org that all the broken elements would be repaired on Tuesday.
