The 10th City Council session was held on 27 June. The discussion about Local Television "Azart-Sat" was opened by Hubert Prabucki, a councillor from Ziemia Bolesławiecka. "I believe that the work of the City Council, as presented by local television, is very fragmentary," the councillor noted. In his opinion, several-minute clips from council sessions do not present a complete picture of the activities of individual councillors. Many decisions important to the residents of Bolesławiec are made at meetings of various committees. Local television does not cover these at all (or does so extremely rarely). Councillor Prabucki submitted a motion that in the future "Azart-Sat" should provide the public with more extensive information about the work of councillors, without limiting itself exclusively to City Council sessions. He also added that he did not believe the attendance of journalists from Bolesławiec television at committee meetings could in any way increase Azart-Sat's costs. He also reminded everyone that the city owns 40% of the company's shares.
Bogusław Nowak, a councillor from Platforma Obywatelska, would like Bolesławiec television to film councillors' interpellations more reliably. He also raised the issue of "Azart-Sat" selecting topics selectively. He wondered why no report had appeared about Robert Makłowicz's visit to our city. It did not appear even though the journalists from "Azart-Sat" had been informed about the visit. "Is this bias or coincidence?" Bogusław Nowak asked.
Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, Chair of the City Council, admitted that she too supported expanding the programming of Bolesławiec television. "I fully support this," the chairwoman said. She announced that she would submit an appropriate motion to the mayor.
Governor's defeat over the appointment of Andrzej Chodyra and concern about PWiK's future
The 10th City Council session also addressed the unlawful appointment by the Lower Silesian Voivode of Andrzej Chodyra as temporary head of the Water and Sewerage Enterprise in Bolesławiec. Irena Dul, a councillor from Lewica i Demokraci, said that this situation could affect the community of our city in the form of increased water rates. Rumours are already circulating that water may cost between 8 and 12 złoty. The councillor asked the mayor to intervene. "Citizens of our city should not have to pay for the mistakes of those in power," Irena Dul added.
Councillor Józef Burniak elaborated on the subject. As he said, all decisions issued by Andrzej Chodyra were unlawful decisions. The financial consequences of the voivode's appointment of the former deputy mayor will first be borne by the enterprise and then by the residents of Bolesławiec. After all, remuneration will have to be paid to Piotr Hodowany, who was dismissed on disciplinary grounds. The LiD councillor also informed those present that on 26 June he had won a case against the voivode concerning his unlawful dismissal from the position of director of PWiK. Burniak is also concerned by the fact that neither the commercialisation nor the municipalisation of the enterprise has yet begun (and a year has already passed). The former mayor knows from the Mayor of Bolesławiec Commune that nothing has been done in this matter. The commune mayor has in fact filed a complaint with the voivode and with the Minister of the State Treasury.
Kazimiera Popławska is retiring
Everyone gathered in the Councillors' Hall gave a long standing ovation in thanks for the work of Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Kazimiera Popławska. On 1 July, the deputy mayor will retire after a well-deserved career. "I wish you as much money as possible for investments, so that there will be something to distribute. Because if there are investments, everyone will live better," an emotional Kazimiera Popławska said. Councillor Burniak added that the deputy mayor belongs to a rare category of people—people who have no enemies. From 1 July, Maciej Małkowski will become Piotr Roman's deputy.
