On Saturday, the Open Bolesławiec Bench Press Championships were held in the sports hall at the I Secondary School. Forty-four men and four women took part in the strength competition. Monika Górecka from Żagań won the women’s category. Monika Górecka weighs less than 40 kg. However, this did not stop her from beating the competition. The athlete from Żagań lifted as much as 65 kg! In the men’s category for competitors weighing up to 67.5 kg, first place went to Bartłomiej Polecki from Legnica, who pressed 100 kg. In the men’s category for competitors weighing up to 75 kg, Bolesławiec resident Sławomir Putra proved unbeatable. He lifted 140 kg. The runner-up in this category, Janusz Poprawski from Pieńsk, managed to lift “only” 125 kg.
The category for competitors weighing up to 82.5 kg was won by Ireneusz Fuza from Legnica, who pressed 152.5 kg. In the men’s category for competitors weighing up to 90.5 kg, Polonia representative and Berlin resident Jan Graczyk won, pressing 192 kg. Andrzej Kocyła from Legnica won the up-to-100 kg weight category, pressing 190 kg. Karol Wojak from Legnica was the best in the up-to-110 kg category, pressing 175 kg. In the men’s category for competitors weighing up to 125 kg, Piotr Czyżyk, a strongman from Pieńsk, gave his rivals no chance, lifting 210 kg. Henryk Romanek from Legnica, who came second in this category, lifted a barbell 25 kilograms lighter.

- Andrzej Kocyła and Mirosław Fugiel from Legnica
The youngest competitor in the championships, Tomasz Wielgoński, was 15 years old. The oldest, Andrzej Lisowski, was 55. Michał Eichstadt became the strongest junior from Bolesławiec. Tomasz Koziński won the title of strongest senior, while Mirosław Kłos became the strongest veteran. A total of 48 competitors, including four women, took part in the Open Bolesławiec Championships for the Mayor’s Cup.
