To promote mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution, during Mediation Week, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., officers of the Investigative Department of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters (Zygmunta Augusta Street) will provide information on out-of-court dispute resolution and mediation.
Mediation is a method of resolving disputes in which a third party helps the parties communicate with each other, identify their interests and the issues to be discussed, and reach a compromise. It is a voluntary and confidential process in which the parties work towards resolving a dispute in the presence of a third party they trust—a mediator. This may be someone completely unknown to the parties or someone close to them (e.g. a brother, sister or friend). Mediation is intended to create conditions enabling the parties to reach a voluntary agreement, rather than impose an authoritative solution on them (which distinguishes it from arbitration).
In the case of a legal dispute, the purpose of mediation is to bring it to an end, particularly through a settlement reached by the parties (establishing the amount of compensation or damages, or imposing other legal duties and obligations on the parties).
