A patient at one of the hospitals notified Zgorzelec police about the theft. She said that while she was lying in the ward, someone robbed her while she was asleep. The perpetrator, who was unknown at the time, took her mobile phone worth PLN 3,000.
The case was taken up by officers from the Criminal Division of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec. The thief turned out to be a 26-year-old woman from Zgorzelec. She was arrested. What is more, the officers established that the woman had also committed other thefts, each time taking advantage of the victims’ lack of attention. When she was visiting an acquaintance and leaving his apartment, she stole his jacket containing documents, a mobile phone and money. Several days later, near one of the churches, she boarded a bus for wedding guests and... stole a backpack containing documents, a phone and clothing.
The arrested woman confessed to the crime. She faces up to five years in prison.
