Exceptional workshops for teachers and interested parents were held in the sports hall of Miejski Zespół Szkół nr 1 at Dolne Młyny. The sessions, presented in a highly attractive dance-and-sports format, were led by dance and fitness instructor Julita Jamza-Szik, a graduate of Uniwersytet Zielonogórski and Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczno-Ekonomiczna in Pabianice, choreographer, Zumba Fitness instructor, animator, and teacher of rhythmics, music and art. She has initiated numerous innovations in the artistic education of children and young people and organizes cultural and fitness events. Julita Jamza-Szik has completed many courses in Poland and abroad in dance, movement, Rudolf Laban’s NTE and the Batii Strauss method of Active Listening.

The several-hour workshops had an engaging, unconventional format. No one sat at desks or wrote anything; all the women who took part exercised, danced and learned dance routines live. The aim was to pass this knowledge on in their schools and kindergartens.

The training in Bolesławiec was titled “Dance Variations for Children, or Sport with a Smile.” Such classes were held in Bolesławiec for the first time, initiated by Dorota Stanałowska, a teacher at Szkoła Podstawowa nr 5. The offer was aimed at kindergarten and early-primary-education teachers, as well as physical education teachers—everyone who wanted to introduce innovative methods of educating children into their own classes. The training was dominated by Zumba-style dance routines that could be offered to children during classes. Zumba is very popular among adults, and teachers keeping up with the times will be happy to introduce its elements into schools.

During the workshops, the teachers had an excellent opportunity to get to know one another, exchange experiences, integrate and form friendships. The positive energy that comes from learning new things, creativity and healthy physical exertion was also very important. All of this is essential in the specific work of teachers. The women can pass this energy on to their pupils, while the course, organized on a Saturday, also helps them relax after a week of work and provides a powerful dose of inspiration and ideas for working with children.

The sports and dance sessions took the form of general-development games. Participants learned interesting dance routines to songs children enjoy, as well as musical warm-ups, games and ways to use accessories—ribbons, balls, hoops and gymnastic beanbags—in games and dances.

The workshops organized by Centrum Edukacji Artystycznej Muzylek Moni at Miejski Zespół Szkół nr 1 are part of the nationwide “Artistic Marathon” program of professional-development workshops for teachers, educators, animators, students, parents and people working with children. This school year, they will be held in several dozen cities across Poland.
