In recent days, police officers and officers from the Lower Silesian–Saxon Nysa police group from Zgorzelec conducted operations targeting property theft in border areas on both the Polish and German sides. The officers stopped a Citroën passenger car for inspection. Two residents of Zabrze were travelling in it. In the boot, the police found over 180 kg of copper traction wires worth more than PLN 50,000.

The men travelling in the Citroën initially did not want to say where the stolen items came from. Eventually, they admitted to committing the theft in Germany. The officers established that the wires had been stolen from an operational railway traction system in Germany. The thieves’ actions damaged the railway line, disrupting its operation and bringing train traffic to a halt for several hours. Both men from Zabrze now face up to five years in prison.
