A concerned driver called the Lubin police duty officer: “I’m following an Audi. Its driver is driving in a zigzag from one edge of the road to the other; he is certainly drunk.”

The officer notified all patrols in the city. The caller continuously reported the direction in which the vehicle was travelling.

Preventive police officers spotted the suspicious car on national road No. 3. They gave a clear light and sound signal to stop. However, the Audi driver had no intention of following their orders. On the contrary, he accelerated and began to flee. As he fled, he drove in a zigzag.

The duty officer notified police officers from a neighbouring unit about the dangerous driver. After a chase lasting several kilometres, Lubin police successfully stopped the fleeing driver before the town of Polkowice. The man did not want to leave the vehicle. The officers were forced to use physical force to detain him because he was aggressive.

The man could barely stand; the smell of alcohol was noticeable on him. He was not tested with a breathalyser because he refused to undergo the test. His blood was drawn, which will show whether he had alcohol in his system and, if so, how much.

What is more, the police could not confiscate the road pirate’s driving licence. As it turned out, the 57-year-old resident of Polkowice simply did not have one.
