We, the parents of children, young people and adults attending the special school in Bolesławiec, oppose being drawn into the political arrangements and games of the County Board. We declare that we are not informed about any of the Board’s projects; we learn about them from third parties. No one has ever consulted us about any proposal, even though we and our children, as beneficiaries, should be informed first. We have been waiting for a new school for more than 20 years, and it is not true that we do not care where it will be located.

Representatives of the governing authorities always appear at the school before every election and then promise us a new school… afterwards, there is silence—until the next election.

For some time, new concepts have been emerging from the county authorities concerning locating the institution in another school. This is causing justified public concern, and further Bolesławiec communities are beginning to perceive us negatively, as people claiming the right to their buildings. We, the parents, cannot imagine moving our school and merging it with another educational institution. You are exposing our children to mockery, insults and humiliation from other children. For us parents, the proximity—or rather, sharing a floor, meeting every day and using the same sports field—of three schools: a secondary school, a lower secondary school and a primary school is unacceptable.

As parents, we approach this entire matter emotionally, not economically. The integration of people with intellectual disabilities does not exist in our society—we know this best of all. Our children require special conditions for development and education. We do not want our children to have the best conditions in the entire county, but we also want them not to have worse conditions than other children.

We declare that the parents of children, young people and adults attending the special school take the following position:

  1. construction of a separate institution fully adapted to people with disabilities, together with an Activation Centre and WTZ, or:
  2. expansion of the existing building, or:
  3. purchase of a building meeting the requirements of people with disabilities, such as the Stomadent Medical Centre

We do not want the ineptitude of successive County authorities to set us—the parents of children attending the special school—against the residents of the County and the City of Bolesławiec.

We will return to this subject.
