One of the principles implemented by the hospital management in Bolesławiec is the transparent allocation of the company’s available financial resources. Among other reasons, this meant that salary increases for the facility’s employees had to be reasonable and feasible to implement systematically. During salary negotiations, however, hospital director Janusz Kalisz declared to the union representatives that, whenever possible, employees would receive a discretionary bonus.

Just before Easter, hospital employees received a 10-percent “financial injection” added to their base salaries. “I am pleased that we managed to generate spare funds and pay people additional money before the holidays. We also decided to bring forward the payment of salaries,” commented facility director Janusz Kalisz. “This bonus is a kind of holiday allowance. I know that some employees would have preferred, for example, vouchers, but that would have been too costly. We did everything that was possible. It is true that our actions were required by the agreement with the trade unions, but the finances in the healthcare sector are such that signed agreements cannot always be implemented,” Kalisz added.
