Wojciech Kasprzyk: “At the request of Mr Paweł — I do not wish to give his surname — I am turning to the mayor with a polite request concerning the granting of discounts to people injured during peacekeeping and stabilisation missions outside the borders of the Republic of Poland, for MZK transport fares and admission to municipal sports and recreational facilities.”
The councillor also mentioned admission tickets to the Museum and other cultural institutions. He added: “Introducing these discounts would be proof of recognition, respect and gratitude for service in support of peacekeeping efforts around the world.”
He added that similar discounts for war veterans had already been introduced by cities such as Sochaczew, Żory and Płock.
“I like this initiative very much,” said Mayor Piotr Roman. “Generally, it seems to me that in Poland we do not respect war veterans as much as they do in other countries. In the United States, if a camera catches a veteran in the stadium, everyone greets them and everyone stands up. It is an element of patriotic education, but also an expression of respect for those who devote their lives and health to ensuring peace. I am absolutely in favour.”
