As police established, the woman had arranged to meet her ex-boyfriend to return his personal belongings. Because she was afraid of him, she asked her new partner to accompany her. When the 22-year-old resident of Legnica saw his ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend while driving along the street, he accelerated sharply, drove across the green strip and onto the pavement, attempting to hit his former partner and her boyfriend with the vehicle.
Fortunately, both managed to escape and were not hit. In addition, officers determined that a mother with a 4-year-old child, who was walking along the pavement driven onto by the young man, had been in serious danger. Only her quick reaction and pulling the child aside prevented a tragedy.
The detained 22-year-old initially claimed that he had not intentionally driven onto the pavement, but that his brakes were defective. He later admitted, however, that he had wanted to run the couple over.
The man was taken into police custody. He faces up to three years in prison.
