The incident occurred after 6:00 p.m. in Iwiny, in Bolesławiec County. A young man was driving recklessly through the villages in a BMW. The police received a report and set up an ambush for him. When they attempted to stop him for a check, the young man began to flee. A chase ensued. In Iwiny, near the church, the driver failed to negotiate a bend. He hit the church wall with the side of the car, bounced off it and drove onto private property, seriously damaging a hydrant, a metal fence and a hedge.

The man suffered no serious injuries; the airbags protected him. According to a witness, the young man was probably under the influence of alcohol, and the car had invalid registration plates.

Three fire service units, an ambulance and the police were at the scene.
