We have already reported on this in the article Fire at the training ground, approximately 50 hectares burned. The fire was brought under control, but because it occurred on heathland, the Military Fire Service is still carrying out securing operations there.
On May 5, to prevent the fire from spreading, before the first State Fire Service units arrived at the scene, additional forces were dispatched from other counties: Legnica, Złotoryja, Lwówek, Zgorzelec and Lubań, as well as from Lubusz Voivodeship.
There was no danger that the fire could spread to the upper parts of the trees, but if strong winds had blown on Thursday, the fire would have been much more difficult to control.
The operation proceeded very smoothly. Firefighters used access points from national road no. 18, which greatly shortened the travel time to the fire.
The operation involved 6 Military Fire Service units, 18 JRG units from the Lower Silesian and Lubusz voivodeships, as well as more than 20 Volunteer Fire Service units.
A total of 50.5 hectares of heathland and wasteland burned.
