The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on the night of Wednesday to Thursday (April 27–28) in a social housing unit at 56 d Kościuszki Street in Bolesławiec. Loud music could be heard coming from the apartment, but no one opened the door. The decision was then made to force it open. Upon entering, the firefighters saw a man lying on the bed. He was unresponsive.
In addition, measuring devices indicated the presence of carbon monoxide in the apartment (20 ppm). The firefighters evacuated the man outside and provided first aid (administering oxygen and covering the casualty with a blanket to prevent him from becoming chilled). An ambulance and the police were also called. The man was taken to hospital.
