Why? Construction projects begin this month, people tidy up their properties, and farmers head out into the fields. Statistically, it is in April that the sappers from the Bolesławiec-based Demining Patrol No. 23, operating across 7 counties of Lower Silesia, have the most work.
It is enough to mention that in April last year they intervened nearly 200 times and removed more than 8,500 items of unexploded ordnance. This year will probably be similar.
The more significant unexploded ordnance disposal operations carried out in April last year:
- 10 April – Dobra, Bolesławiec municipality: the sappers destroyed 22 50-kilogram aerial bombs and two 75 mm artillery shells (all of German manufacture)
- 27 April – Wierzbowa, Gromadka municipality: three Soviet-made aerial bombs (weighing 50 kg)
- 30 April – Świętoszów, Osiecznica municipality: 113 artillery shells (calibres 150 and 75 mm), a mortar shell, 13 artillery-shell fuzes, 6 artillery-shell fragments, 31 rounds of small-arms ammunition.
Warning!
The Demining Patrol warns: if we find an object that looks like unexploded ordnance or a misfired round, under no circumstances should we touch it; we should remember where it is and report it to police officers or a forester.
