Police officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin worked to ensure road safety during the holidays. No accidents occurred during this time. Meanwhile, officers equipped with mobile and portable speed-measuring devices curbed drivers’ enthusiasm for excessive speed.
As many as 8 drivers lost their driving licences for exceeding the speed limit by at least 50 km/h in a built-up area. The record-holder exceeded it by 70 km/h. Among the drivers stopped and stripped of their licences were two motorcyclists. For the next three months—as required by law—they will not be allowed to drive motor vehicles.
Since the beginning of the year, 65 drivers have lost their driving licences. Twenty-nine of them lost them for exceeding the speed limit in a built-up area by at least 50 km/h. Another 36 lost them because of penalty points and failure to comply with the starosta’s decision banning them from driving vehicles. Despite the ban, these drivers subsequently got behind the wheels of their cars twice more. Under the applicable regulations, they will now have to obtain their driving licences again from scratch—as if they had never held them.
