The construction of the skatepark was accompanied by controversy. Many people wondered whether it was a necessary investment or whether allocating 120,000 zlotys for its completion was a misguided idea. Skateboarders from Bolesławiec have no such doubts. In their opinion, the skatepark is a fantastic idea.
At last, something is happening
The skatepark was used for several weeks before its official handover to the skateboarders, which took place on Saturday. Bolesławiec is not short of enthusiasts of skateboarding adventures, so it is no wonder that the construction of a facility equipped with professional training equipment was met with the applause of local young people. “It is a very good idea,” says Grzegorz, who was present at the skatepark’s opening. “Above all, young people will have something to do; they will not wander around the courtyard, but will come here with their skateboards or bicycles. And if a basketball court is built here as well, it will be absolutely wonderful. At last, something is happening in this city.”
A 1,000-zloty run
A skateboarding competition was held during the skatepark’s opening. The best run was awarded 1,000 zlotys. There was no shortage of participants: 23 skateboarders from Bolesławiec, Opole, Brzeg and Wrocław took part. “During the runs, we pay attention to several important elements,” explains Artur Ber, one of the judges. “The difficulty of the trick being performed, riding style—that is, smoothness and speed—as well as the height of the tricks are important. The level of the competition is quite good. This is already my fourth time competing in Bolesławiec, and I have to admit that it gets better every year.”
“One of the better ones”
Artur Ber also rates the Bolesławiec skatepark highly. “I listened to comments from colleagues from Warsaw, who, there is no denying, ride the best. They said that the skatepark is one of the better ones in Poland. There are facilities here both for beginners and for experienced riders.”
