Aleksandra and Bronisław W. got married in 2001. They settled in Bolesławiec, together with Aleksandra’s three daughters from her first marriage. The eldest of them became the apple of Bronisław W.’s eye. The 44-year-old man bought her sweets and gave her small amounts of money. He also forbade her from meeting her peers both at home and outside. He explained this by saying that he feared his underage stepdaughter might fall in with unsuitable company.

Police established that from the beginning of 2003 until August 2005, whenever the defendant and the victim were alone, the man abused the 14-year-old girl and also showed her pornographic material. He threatened her that if anyone found out, the girl and her sisters would be sent to an orphanage. The investigation also showed that Bronisław W. mentally and physically abused his wife, Aleksandra.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. He maintained that the entire case was merely his wife’s revenge. He told the Court that she had persuaded her daughters to testify against him. Nevertheless, the District Court found Bronisław W. guilty of the charges and sentenced him to 7 years in prison. It also stipulated that the convicted man would not be eligible to apply for conditional release until he had served five years and three months.

The verdict is not final, and the convicted man will most likely appeal it.
