Dominika Kwaszcz showed, after winning the gold medal at last year’s Nationwide Youth Olympics, that this year she is also unrivalled among Poland’s best younger junior women. The athlete coached by Bartosz Gruman improved her personal best once again this year and won the gold medal in the long jump (5.80 m), this time indoors.
– It was a difficult competition for me because I was aware that I was competing as the favourite, and that is never easy, especially in an event such as the long jump. Three failed jumps are enough to lose the chance of winning a medal. As it turned out, however, there was nothing to fear, and the work I put so much heart into is paying off, while the path I have chosen is the right one – said a delighted Dominika.
Paweł Jóźwiak finished seventh in the long jump (6.81 m) and tenth in the triple jump (13.52 m).
The other young Bolesłavia athletes were training camps at that time in Twardogóra, Wrocław and Szklarska Poręba, preparing for the season. Therefore, only those who were closest to the Czech town could compete at the Lower Silesian Indoor Championships in Jablonec on February 6.
The athletes coached by Bartosz Gruman won gold medals: Mateusz Tofil in the high jump (2.02 m) and the 60 m hurdles (8.42 s), and Dominika Kwaszcz in the long jump (5.61 m). Paweł Jóźwiak came close to gold, winning silver in the long jump (6.75 m). Paweł also won bronze in the triple jump (13.44 m).
Marcelina Drozdek finished fourth in the 600 m (1:55.61). Przemysław Mienculewicz was sixth in the high jump (1.65 m), while Jakub Karaban was seventh in the 60 m hurdles (9.15 s).
Among the athletes coached by Dariusz Łomański, Patryk Modras won gold in the 400 m (53.21 s), leading from start to finish, while Daniel Najdek won silver in the 600 m (1:33.23). In the 1500 m, Mateusz Bobrowski, who was struggling with an injury, finished fifth (4:50.41).
Among the athletes coached by Tomasz Markowski, Dominik Stec was second in the shot put (14.55 m), while Dawid Borysewicz was fourth (13.30 m). Kamil Kawka won silver in the 600 m. Aleksandra Niezgoda finished fourth in the 60 m (8.31 s), while Sylwia Jaźwicz was seventh (8.51 s). Krystian Skrzypacz was sixth in the triple jump (12.27 m). The coach of all four athletes is Ryszard Posacki.
Next Saturday, Bolesławiec’s youngest athletes will compete against their peers in Wałbrzych at the Lower Silesian Indoor Championships for U16 athletes. We wish them success.
