During the operation, the officers paid particular attention to offences committed by drivers against pedestrians (especially their behaviour near marked pedestrian crossings), and also disciplined pedestrians who failed to comply with the applicable regulations.
The most common offences committed by pedestrians? Crossing against a red light (for which a fine of PLN 100 may be imposed), crossing in a prohibited place (PLN 50), and stepping directly in front of an oncoming vehicle.
During the operation, the officers recorded 37 offences. Pedestrians received 13 fines, while drivers received 24. Moreover, the Jelenia Góra traffic unit detained two drunk drivers.
An accident also occurred during this time in Mysłakowice, on the road to Karpacz. Initial findings indicate that a 28-year-old driver of a Toyota Avensis crossed into the opposite lane while overtaking and collided head-on with a Daewoo travelling in the opposite direction. The Toyota driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
