Around 60 seniors took part in the fifth edition of the Water Universiade organized by the Bolesławiec University of the Third Age, affiliated with the Wrocław University of Economics – Faculty of Economics, Management and Tourism in Jelenia Góra, including people who began learning to swim in October last year.

Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Kornel Filipowicz:

The beautiful cheerleaders who appeared at the beginning of the event made a particularly strong impression on me. Everyone wants to be happy; everyone dreams of fulfilling their aspirations. But to achieve this state, we must keep moving, remain active and feel fulfilled. And that is precisely what universities of the third age are for.

On behalf of the city authorities, I would like to sincerely thank you and assure you that we have supported the University and will continue to do so.

“People feel great after these classes, which are very popular because they promote activity and physical fitness and help prevent back and musculoskeletal pain,” emphasizes Wiesława Olczyk, the driving force behind the Bolesławiec UTW. “They also prove that people can remain fit at any age; all it takes is the will to do so. After all, no medicine can replace exercise. Our students later tell us that they manage very well when swimming in lakes or the sea. Interestingly and reassuringly, their children and grandchildren greatly appreciate this fitness as well,” she adds. “Swimming classes are something fantastic,” adds Helena Strzelczak, a UTW student.

“I strongly encourage Bolesławiec seniors who are not yet members of our University to enroll and take advantage of our wide range of activities,” says Wiesława Olczyk.
