On 7 February 2016, officers from the First Police Station were notified that a 40-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra was abusing animals. Two injured cats were found in the Jelenia Góra resident’s apartment. The owner was under the influence of alcohol.
It turned out that after returning from work on 6 February, at around 10:30 p.m., the man’s cohabiting partner found him asleep, bloodstains in the apartment, on a knife and a metal mop handle, as well as two cats with serious injuries on their bodies.
The police called an employee of an animal shelter. The cats were taken to a veterinary clinic. The 40-year-old, meanwhile, was placed in a police detention facility. After sobering up, he was questioned and charged with abusing animals with particular cruelty.
The perpetrator confessed to the alleged act. During questioning, however, he claimed that he did not remember his behavior toward the animals or why he had beaten them because he was drunk.
He now faces up to three years in prison.
