Based on the “Schedule of Main Undertakings of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment Concerning the Formation and Preparation of Components of the 34th Rotation of the KFOR Polish Military Contingent for Participation in the Peacekeeping Operation in the Kosovo Force in Kosovo,” the maneuver company, commanded by Capt. Piotr Sobański, participated in the Zasłona-16/I tactical exercise with troops.

The exercise director, Lt. Col. Jarosław Radzimierski, outlining the essence and objectives of the exercise, presented the main tactical issues considered during the exercise and the scope of integrating the company’s combat system. The chief of staff of the exercise leadership, Capt. Grzegorz Jopek, supervised the proper course of the exercise in accordance with the adopted concept.

During the tactical exercise of the maneuver company with live-fire ammunition, the soldiers not only improved their skills in the practical performance of mandate tasks in the area of responsibility, but were also assessed on their execution of operational procedures and their ability to cooperate with support and security elements.

The company TOC was also assessed during the exercise. The company commander’s skills in planning, organizing and conducting operations during the day and at night are just as important as the training of the subordinate units. The level of equipment, qualifications and knowledge of ROE and MPKHZ among the company’s designated personnel must be high, as they directly affect the quality of command exercised over subordinate platoons.

During the three planned days of intensive training, the motorized platoons of the maneuver company, commanded by 2nd Lt. Michał Fedorowicz, 2nd Lt. Konrad Kurlej and 2nd Lt. Konrad Rak, carried out a number of difficult tasks. These were tasks that could realistically arise in a mission area outside the country.

While carrying out the CRC (Crowd and Riot Control) task, involving the maintenance and restoration of law and public order when breached, the designated maneuver company forces applied the rules of engagement (ROE) in practice, appropriate to the existing threat.

The exercise also tested the practical performance of the maneuver company platoons while carrying out, among others, FP (Force Protection), C&S (Cordon and Search), QRF (Quick Reaction Force), MEDEVAC and VCP (Vehickle Check Point) procedures, as well as medical and logistical support activities conducted by the support platoon and medical section.

The exercise analysis, assessment and discussion team played a very important role. The exercise director, Lt. Col. Jarosław Radzimierski, discussed the tasks being carried out on an ongoing basis with the team leader, Capt. Mariusz Witwicki, providing valuable guidance to the participating subunits.

During the exercise, the maneuver company improved, integrated and tested a number of skills and practical procedures. It was one of the last assessments before redeployment to the mission area outside the country.
