On January 20, 2016, at around 2:00 a.m., police officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters noticed a Mercedes on Bankowa Street in Jelenia Góra. They decided to stop it for a traffic check because the driver’s manner of driving indicated that he might be under the influence of alcohol.
The driver turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra, who was traveling with his friends, aged 24 and 36. There was a nervous atmosphere in the car. The reason? As it later emerged, the passengers were wanted—the officers established that both had prison sentences to serve for unpaid fines. Moreover, the 36-year-old had a portion of marijuana in his possession.
The driver was also well known to the police, as he had been detained two days earlier in connection with break-ins at two casinos in Jelenia Góra. The man committed these offenses in January of this year, and his haul amounted to several thousand złotys in cash. He could face up to 10 years in prison for these offenses.
