On 21 December 2015, a collision occurred in Lubin. It was caused by a 22-year-old resident of Lubin municipality. He did not have the vehicle registration certificate with him. His brother brought him the document after the police arrived. However, it showed that the vehicle had undergone a diagnostic inspection that same day.
This immediately aroused the suspicions of officers from the Traffic Division. They passed the information on to the Economic Crime Division of the Lubin police headquarters.
As it turned out, the vehicle had not undergone an inspection at a diagnostic station that day. An investigation was launched into the matter.
The prosecutor charged the 26-year-old brother of the collision perpetrator with active corruption; the man confessed to the crime. The diagnostician, a 47-year-old resident of Lubin, was charged with passive corruption; he pleaded not guilty and refused to provide explanations. The collision perpetrator will face charges for using a document certifying false information, an offense punishable by up to two years in prison.
The 26- and 47-year-olds face up to 10 years in prison.
