The celebrations of the Rocket Forces and Artillery Holiday at the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment took place on Friday, December 4. Colonel Paweł Świtalski, commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment:

The Rocket Forces and Artillery Holiday is an expression of respect for the centuries-old tradition, history and achievements of our special branch of the armed forces. Due to the power of its fire, artillery plays a huge role in combat and largely determines victory. These words, taken from the 1936 artillery training manual, remain relevant today.

The ceremony was also an opportunity to welcome Captain Waldemar Knapik, who had returned from a mission in Afghanistan, as well as to bid farewell to two soldiers who will serve in other units: Major Szymon Czerwiński and Captain Mariusz Żydaczewski.

The “Master of Fire of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment 2015” competition was also decided. The title went to Captain Łukasz Sołtyszewski, while Second Lieutenant Łukasz Mikołajczyk came second.

That day, Colonel Paweł Świtalski presented Anna Bober-Tubaj, director of the Museum of Ceramics, with a Parabellum pistol from World War II, which had been found on the unit’s premises during renovation work.

Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Kornel Filipowicz also spoke. He recalled that in November, the City Council honored the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment with the title “Meritorious to the City of Bolesławiec”, and presented the regiment’s commander with... a bauble. A Christmas one, made of ceramic, that is.

The ceremony concluded with a display of parade drill by the recruits, followed by a parade of subunits and equipment of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.
