The case concerns insulting posts that appeared on the Bolec.Info website in May 2006. The portal was notorious for insulting people, publishing one-sided materials or rankings, and hosting discussions in which teachers, doctors and the mayor of Bolesławiec were judged without restraint. One forum discussion concerned the Municipal Police. It was filled with epithets directed at the officers. The Municipal Police Commander, the first in Bolesławiec to do so, decided to oppose the insulting of people on the portal and referred the matter to the prosecutor’s office.
The police had trouble identifying all the authors of the insulting comments because, in May, Bolec.Info did not yet archive all computer addresses. However, they managed to identify one website user, 18-year-old Maciej Ł. The young man admitted committing the offense but did not explain the reasons for his actions. The court fined him 300 zlotys. The remainder of the case was discontinued by the prosecutor’s office.
