Piotr Roman of Law and Justice is unhappy that Dariusz Kwaśniewski of Civic Platform, a person responsible for securing EU funds, was appointed to the Bolesławiec County Board. The president explains that the position for Kwaśniewski is unnecessary and that this is why he wants to reclaim the loan. “We will consider whether, in this situation, we should demand the repayment of the loan granted for the hospital’s restructuring,” Piotr Roman threatened at Thursday’s press conference. The amount in question is PLN 1.5 million. According to local television, the money would be allocated to road repairs.

“It is unbelievable that Piotr Roman wants to take back money intended for the hospital and spend it on roads,” says Bolesławiec County head Cezary Przybylski. “Mixing politics into hospital affairs in this way is unforgivable,” adds Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the County Board. Neither President Piotr Roman nor his spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont answered the phone on Monday when we called seeking comment.

According to the agreement, repayment of the loan was to begin in 2008. For 10 years, the county would repay PLN 150,000 to the city each year. In November 2005, Piotr Roman wrote in a letter to the county head that a possible request to cancel the loan could be considered at the county’s request and would depend on the city’s current budgetary situation. In May 2006, then county head Krzysztof Konopka requested that the debt be cancelled. No decision has been made to date.
