The incident occurred on 16 November this year, at around 3 p.m., in one of the restaurants in Karpacz. While using the toilet, a 43-year-old man from Ostrów Wielkopolski noticed a mobile phone that had been left behind, so… he stole it. After the theft, he returned to his table and, as if nothing had happened, drank a beer.
When the victim, the establishment’s owner, realised that the phone had disappeared, he began to suspect the 43-year-old of the theft. However, the man did not admit to the crime. The victim therefore notified the police. He estimated the value of the stolen property at PLN 500.
The 43-year-old admitted his guilt to the police only during the proceedings and returned the stolen item. It turned out that he had already committed similar offences.
The man was taken into police custody. At the time of his arrest, he was drunk. He had 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. He now faces up to five years in prison.
