Mieczysław Kozłowski was born in 1949 in Poznań. He worked in painting, ceramic design, photography, mural creation (architectural paintings), graphic design and computer graphics. In the world around Him, he saw beauty above all, saying of it: It is something ambiguous, escaping definitions. It changes and depends on fashion and mood. But for me, beauty is timeless and subconscious. Mieczysław Kozłowski was not only a versatile and talented artist, but also a cheerful and sensitive person—modest, full of empathy and an extraordinary sense of humour. The death of Mieczysław Kozłowski is an enormous loss for Bolesławiec’s culture.

The artist graduated from the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Poznań. From 1968 to 1973, he studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wrocław. He obtained his diploma in easel painting in the studio of associate professor Alfons Mazurkiewicz, and in architectural painting in the studio of Professor Mieczysław Zdanowicz. He had lived in Bolesławiec since 1974. Initially, he was associated with the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, where he worked as an instructor. From 1981 to 1989, he was a designer at the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works. In 1979–1980, he created six architectural paintings in the centre of Bolesławiec. In 1989, on the bicentenary of the destruction of the Bastille, he created a figurative composition for the French Ambassador in Warsaw depicting that historical event. He practised easel painting and artistic and applied graphics, and also created and designed ceramic products. He was the author of the logo design for Ceramika Artystyczna “Wiza”, the trademark for artistic decorations for the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works, the logo of the Bolesławiec Refractory Materials Works, the “Primus Inter Pares” medal for the then Primary School No. 8, and the “Meritorious for the Bolesławiec Land” medal. He created depictions of the national emblem and the city coat of arms, which are located in the Council Chamber of Bolesławiec Town Hall. He took part in numerous group and solo exhibitions presented in museums and private galleries in Poland and abroad.
