The program of activities, including the participation of police officers, was prepared on the basis of the government programs implemented by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, entitled “Safer Together” and “A Safe and Friendly School,” national programs, and the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra’s own programs and activities, with particular emphasis on the preventive program “Safe Neighborhood,” including the areas “Preschooler under the Police Umbrella,” “Do Not Give in to Addictions and All Kinds of Threats!,” “Safe with Electricity,” and “A Safe Way to School.”

The programs and activities of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra in the field of crime prevention were promoted, with particular emphasis on initiatives focused on children’s personal safety.

The “All of Poland Reads to Kids” program brings together, among others, representatives of uniformed services. Each day is planned so that individual stories are presented by the police, municipal police, fire service, and emergency medical services.

The meeting with children from grades 1–3 was divided into three stages. During the first, a policewoman, as part of the nationwide “All of Poland Reads to Kids” program, read “The Tale of Princess Julita and Hilary the Dragon.” During the second, the values and messages of the selected story were discussed. Reading to a child is a vaccine against boredom, addiction to media and computers, peer pressure, demoralization, and the shallow values of mass culture.

The third stage focused on presenting the police officer as the children’s friend. Police officers, students, and their guardians discussed the influence of reading books on children’s development and on the bond formed between an adult and a child while reading.

In addition, during the meeting, the officers discussed the following topics:

  • a school without violence
  • strangers
  • crossing the street
  • how to behave around an unfamiliar or stray dog
  • appropriate behavior in difficult situations, including calling the emergency services and reviewing emergency numbers
  • basic road signs and reflective elements.
