Piotr Roman mentioned that during a meeting of one of the City Council committees, also attended by the district governor Dariusz Kwaśniewski, the issue of reversing the direction of traffic on Mickiewicza and Sierpnia ’80 was discussed. “We have two access roads to the Market Square: Kościelna and Sierpnia ’80, and both run in the same direction,” the president said. “We are wondering whether it would be a good idea to reverse this direction, meaning that it would be possible to enter Mickiewicza from Ogrodowa Street and then travel along Sierpnia ’80, among other destinations, to the district governor’s office.

The president noted that this solution would involve eliminating the possibility of parking on Sierpnia ’80 on the side where the milk bar is located. This would ensure that wheelchair users and pedestrians had full access to the pavement.

This, P. Roman continued, would in turn require introducing paid parking on the other side. “To a large extent, people park there after leaving their cars for 10–12 hours. Introducing a fee in this location would increase mobility,” the president explained. “That is how it is now at Piłsudski Square. At present—until 4:00 p.m., because afterward parking is free—you can always find a parking space there.

He added: “I am in favor of reversing this traffic flow. The logic is that if there are two parallel one-way roads [czyli Kościelna i Sierpnia ’80 – przyp. „ii”], they should not run in the same direction.
