A 32-year-old resident of Lubelskie Voivodeship notified the police about a car theft. Officers established that the theft had not occurred at all. What happened? The reporting man’s 58-year-old father, whose driving privileges had been revoked, had earlier got behind the wheel of the car, caused a collision and then fled the scene. Wanting to protect his father from liability, the son gave false testimony and reported a crime that had not occurred.

Police established that the collision had taken place in the afternoon in Wrocław, while the 32-year-old reported the car stolen in the evening in Bolesławiec, aware that it would soon be located because it had been abandoned at the scene of a road incident.

The 32-year-old faces up to 3 years in prison. His father, meanwhile, will be held responsible for driving without a licence and causing the collision. In addition, he will bear the costs associated with repairing the vehicles he damaged.
