Supertrio: Meryl Streep (a three-time Oscar winner), Jonathan Demme (Oscar winner for “The Silence of the Lambs,” “Philadelphia” and “Rachel Getting Married”) and Diablo Cody (Oscar winner for the screenplay of “Juno”) present the story of an aging rock star (M. Streep) who abandoned her family in her youth for show business. Now she returns to the family fold—or rather, tries to piece together its fragments. She is neither meek nor patient, just as her divorced daughter (Mamie Gummer) is not compassionate. Streep and Gummer play the on-screen mother and daughter—privately, they are mother and daughter.
