We have written about this issue, among other things, in the article The child is not breathing, my legs are going numb – residents’ false alarms. People call about trivial matters, not realizing that in this way they engage emergency services, which may be needed at that time wherever someone may genuinely need their help.
Last week, we reported the trivial matters residents of the county call our firefighters about. As it turns out, they do not call only them. Such situations also occur for dispatchers at the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. Recently, a woman called the police emergency number and asked whether the duty officer had… nice eyes.
There have also been cases where callers asked for the number of a taxi. Or they requested an intervention because their wife did not want to let them into the house.
Sometimes a resident calls the emergency number to ask the name of the officer handling their case. However, as the uniformed officers emphasize, the emergency number serves an entirely different purpose!
It is also often the case that those who call the police do not want to report anything. They simply got drunk and decided it would be a good idea. Jokes of this kind may be amusing, but not when they block the line for people who may genuinely need help.
