Police officers from Karpacz, together with officers from the Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, arrested a 26-year-old man following a pursuit. He is suspected of driving in violation of court-imposed bans and failing to stop for a roadside check.
On 30 August 2015, at around 4:10 a.m., officers on Puławskiego Street in Podgórzyn noticed a passenger car whose manner of driving suggested that its driver might be under the influence of alcohol. The officers decided to stop the car for a check. However, the driver did not respond to the signals to stop and began to flee. The officers pursued him.
At one point in Borowice, the man stopped, abandoned the vehicle and began fleeing on foot. The officers started searching for him. Several minutes later, they arrested the 26-year-old, who had tried to hide in... a stream. He covered himself with stones and a sweatshirt.
The police also established that the driver had been driving in violation of two court-imposed bans, which remain in force until 2019. In addition, while fleeing, he committed several offences, including creating a traffic safety hazard and failing to stop for a roadside check.
Furthermore, the man was wanted to serve a prison sentence of two years and seven months for other offences.
The 26-year-old was detained in police custody. He faces up to three years in prison.
