Several thousand people enjoyed themselves during the municipal and district harvest festival in Rudna. “This is our tradition, which is not disappearing because we nurture it every year,” says Władysław Bigus about the Harvest Festival Władysław Bigus, head of Rudna Municipality.
A colorful procession carrying bread and harvest wreaths, prepared by the village councils of Rudna Municipality and representatives of the municipalities of Lubin County, proceeded from the town hall to the stadium, where this year’s harvest was celebrated during a solemn outdoor Mass. “The most important thing is goodness and sharing it with another person. The joyful harvest festival, prepared jointly by the residents of the village councils, is the most beautiful expression of community,” recalled Canon Leszek Kowalski.Leszek Kowalski.
Traditionally, bread baked from this year’s grain was shared. In accordance with old custom, the head of Rudna Municipality Władysław Bigus and the invited guests: Tadeusz Samborski, member of the board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship; Adam Myrda, Lubin County executive; Krystian Kosztyła, mayor of Ścinawa; and Tadeusz Kielan, head of rural Lubin Municipality, offered it to all the guests.
“A loaf of bread is a symbol encompassing the dignity of the Polish peasant,” emphasized Tadeusz Samborski. Throughout the afternoon, the audience could admire the folk groups Sasanka and Roztoka from Rudna Municipality, a performance by the Fruktaki group, and shows by children and young people from the municipal cultural centers. Strongman demonstrations and delicacies prepared by the women of village councils from throughout the county were hugely popular. The evening’s star, the band Weekend, electrified the audience, as did a demonstration of sand painting by Tetiana Galitsyna, who became famous through the program “Mam Talent.”
The most eagerly awaited moment was the competition for the most beautiful wreaths, the most beautiful village council stands, and the golden scythe in the municipal residents’ tournament. The Wysokie village council defeated thirty opponents and won first prize, as well as a cheque for PLN 1,100, for the most beautiful wreath. “Five men prepared the metal framework, while fifteen women spent an entire month, several hours a day, weaving the wreath. We used more than twenty sheaves of various grains,” admitted Irena Habura, head of the Wysokie village council.
The Chobienia village council came second, while Gwizdanów took third place. The most beautiful wreath in the county was prepared by the Przychowa village council from Ścinawa Municipality, which will represent Lubin County at the voivodeship harvest festival. Choosing the most beautiful stand was difficult, but ultimately one winner was selected from among thirty-three: the Górzyn village council. “The preparations took some time. We tried very hard. All the village residents brought their best harvests and helped create this extraordinary, colorful stand,” said Marek Wysocki, head of Górzyn. Gawronki came second, while Orsk took third place. This year’s golden scythe in the village council tournament went to Toszowice.
During the harvest festival, visitors could sample pea soup, bread with lard, homemade cake, meatballs, bacon-filled dumplings, cutlets, and many other delicacies. “In my opinion, it’s great. New attractions all the time. I was most looking forward to the Weekend performance because, as everyone knows, people have the most fun with disco polo,” said Paulina Mocuń.
