On August 17, at around 4:00 p.m., a resident of Lubin called the police duty officer and reported that two young people were dismantling parts from a van parked in an unsecured parking lot on Ścinawska Street. The caller became suspicious because of the “mechanics’” age.
The duty officer sent officers from the crime prevention department to the scene. The perpetrators were already sitting in an identical van. When they saw the police car, they jumped out of the van and tried to escape. Unsuccessfully—they were detained.
It turned out that the perpetrators had previously dismantled the vehicle’s seats, windows and other parts, and then immediately sold them to a man who came to collect them—in a car of the exact same make.
The 31-year-old resident of Małopolskie Voivodeship who bought the stolen parts has already been charged with handling stolen goods, an offense punishable by up to five years in prison. The 15- and 16-year-olds who committed the theft will answer for their actions before a family court.
