Adrian B. was being held at the Remand Centre in Luban as a pre-trial detainee in connection with an investigation against him, in which he was accused of attempting to rape his teenage sister and her friend with particular cruelty. For these crimes, the Jelenia Gora Regional Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison. The judgment is not final, and his lawyer has already filed an appeal.
On 26 May 2014, prison officers brought Adrian B. to the psychologist's office. Her duties included, among other things, providing psychological assistance to people experiencing adaptation difficulties and conducting psychocorrective interventions with detainees. The victim was left alone in the office with the suspect. The man sat on a chair, after which the psychologist began talking to him. During the conversation, the detainee suddenly got up from the chair and moved towards her without saying a word. He then pushed the victim with great force, knocking her to the floor, and grabbed her by the arms, preventing her from moving. The woman began calling loudly for help. Prison officers ran to the scene and subdued the attacker.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bodily injuries causing a health disorder lasting more than seven days. Adrian B. confessed to committing the offence of which he was accused. As in the previous proceedings, he feigned mental illness, claiming that he had committed the act “because he wanted to learn to read minds”.
The aforementioned man was examined by court-appointed psychiatrists and also underwent psychiatric observation. However, the experts concluded that he was neither mentally ill nor intellectually disabled and that he was sane at the time of the incident.
He faces a prison sentence of between three months and five years for this offence.
