On Wednesday (12 August), at around 2:00 p.m., a fire was noticed in the usable part of the attic of a detached residential building in Kościelna Wieś. Just a few minutes after the fire was reported, two OSP Ruszów crews arrived at the scene. Part of the attic was engulfed in flames, and flames were already emerging outside from the gable section of the roof. The firefighters began extinguishing the fire from inside the building, in the attic area, which enabled them to locate the fire quickly and limit its spread to the remaining parts of the building.
The firefighters from Ruszów were quickly and effectively supported in extinguishing the fire by firefighters from OSP Jagodzin. Firefighters from OSP Węgliniec and three JRG PSP crews from Zgorzelec also took part in the operation, along with a Medical Rescue Team, the Police and the Power Emergency Service. The Mayor, Mr Stanisław Mikołajczyk, the Head of MGOPS, Ms Grażyna Sroka, and the Deputy Commander of JRG PSP in Zgorzelec, Junior Captain A. Mańkowski, also arrived at the scene.
After the fire had been brought under control and extinguished, the firefighters cleared the attic area, removed charred elements of the roof truss and secured the building with tarpaulins. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
