The competition for young firefighters aged 16 to 21 lasted from July 3 to 4. Eighteen teams from nine voivodeships took part. MDP Tomaszów Bolesławiecki was the only team representing Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
The team consisted of:
- Paulina Tschierschke – team captain
- Tomasz Hyski
- Dawid Kubuś
- Piotr Stelmaszek
- Zbigniew Faryniarz.
Supervisors: Wojciech Tschierschke, Agnieszka Kobusiak, Kinga and Mirosław Skulscy.
The competition consisted of five stages: a fitness pentathlon, a swimming relay, team drill, a 1,000 m team run and sport shooting.
On Friday, the first day of the competition, teams began the fitness pentathlon early in the morning. It included a 12 km orienteering run with a 250 m elevation difference, during which participants had to complete specific tasks against the clock.
First, on Lake Międzybrodzkie, they raced boats against the clock, followed by kayaking. After these tasks, the team had to run according to a map to the next checkpoint, where they completed a road rescue and first-aid task. The team from Tomaszów performed best, scoring 95 out of a possible 100 points
The next stage was building a tent from shelter halves, which went smoothly. This was followed by a test of knowledge about Porąbka, in which our youth team scored 9 out of 10 points!
After several kilometers of running, the next task was water rescue, which involved throwing a lifebuoy at a target. This was followed by a firefighting task involving draining and rolling up a fire hose, then unrolling it again and knocking down three cones with a directed stream of water.
The next stage involved changing a wheel on a fire truck and carrying an injured person on a stretcher through an obstacle course. Another difficult task was transporting hazardous cargo, in which our firefighter Tomasz Hyski performed best, and no one was able to beat his result. The next task was air-rifle shooting, followed finally by the long-awaited finish.
After lunch and a short rest, it was time for the 4 x 50 m swimming relay. The OSP Tomaszów team performed excellently, especially Paulina Tschierschke, who achieved the fastest time and was named the competition’s best swimmer.
In the evening, before dinner, the team drill took place. After the first day of competition, an opening bonfire with sausage roasting was held.
The next stage of the competition began at 8 a.m. on Saturday. After the 1,000 m team run came sport shooting, in which our firefighter Zbigniew Faryniarz achieved the best result in the entire competition. He was the best male shooter, earning third place in the individual standings out of 70 participants.
After all the points had been tallied, MDP Tomaszów Bolesławiecki finished the competition in an excellent fifth place.
The first three places were taken by professionals from military schools, but our team is already starting to close the gap.
