Police officers from the Criminal Department of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters arrested two men suspected of stealing nearly 260 meters of telecommunications cable. The detainees are residents of Gromadka Municipality, aged 27 and 53. The suspects committed the thefts separately, but both acted at the same location during the same period, from April 13 to 23 this year. The thieves dug up approximately 260 meters of various types of cable in total. The crimes were committed to the detriment of a mobile telecommunications operator. Initial losses were estimated at no less than PLN 3,000.
As a result of searching the utility rooms used by the detainees, police officers recovered a significant portion of the cable, which had been cut into sections measuring between 5 and 11 meters. In total, the police brought six charges against the suspects. The detainees confessed to stealing the cable. Both residents of Gromadka Municipality had previously been convicted of crimes against property.
Theft is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
