Officers from the Zgorzelec District Police Headquarters arrested a man suspected of stealing a delivery van from Germany. The suspect is a 27-year-old resident of one of the localities in Zgorzelec municipality. The man was placed in police custody.
The arrest took place after the duty officer at the Zgorzelec police station received a report of a cross-border chase involving a car stolen in Germany. While fleeing from German officers, the driver abandoned the vehicle after crossing the border and entering Poland.
Zgorzelec police officers began searching for the driver. A handler with a tracking dog also took part in the operation. The dog led the officers to one of the private properties. There, the police found the man who had earlier fled in the stolen car.
The officers also found other items at the scene that had most likely been stolen in Germany as well, including a moped, fencing mesh and gardening equipment.
The court will now decide the detainee’s further fate.
