Meanwhile, this coming Sunday the youngest viewers will be able to see the production “The Royal Sparrow” on our stage, performed in Zgorzelec by artists from the Zdrojowy Theatre of Animation in Jelenia Góra. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the traditional Japanese puppet theatre dating back to the 17th century, popularly known as bunraku. The puppets are distinguished not only by their extraordinary beauty, but above all by the fact that they are animated by three actors working together. Animating puppets of this kind requires exceptional precision and skill. The stage adaptation of the fairy tale was written by Izumi Yoshida, born in 1989 and a student at the State Film School in Łódź. The production was directed by Waldemar Wolański – an actor, director, playwright and lecturer at arts universities. The cast includes Dorota Fluder, Lidia Lisowicz, Katarzyna Morawska, Jacek Maksimowicz, Tadeusz Ksiądzyna and Sylwester Kuper. The set design was prepared by Joanna Hrk, and the music by Tomasz Walczak. Tickets costing PLN 10 are still on sale. The gong will sound at 4 p.m.

At the PozaNova cinema, from Monday through Wednesday inclusive, this week we are showing the drama “Oniryca”. Lech Majewski’s film is the final part of a trilogy that also includes “The Garden of Earthly Delights” and “The Mill and the Cross”. It is a cinematic poem telling a love story inspired by Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”. The lights go down at 6:31 p.m. Tickets cost PLN 10.

But our projectors will be running not only in the afternoon – this week there will also be further morning screenings for school students as part of the New Horizons of Film Education project (on Tuesday), as well as a special screening for the Cross-Border University of the Third Age (on Thursday).

On Wednesday from 10 a.m., young reciters from grades 1–3 of primary schools will take the stage in the cinema hall. The city-level auditions for the school recitation competition will be held here that day, along with another lecture by the Cross-Border University of the Third Age. It will begin at 11 a.m. and will be about brrrrr… colorectal cancer. The guest of the audience will be the head of the general and oncology surgery department at the Zgorzelec hospital, physician Maciej Błaszczyński.

On Thursday, together with Zgorzelec’s preschoolers, we invite you to the Small Theatre Forms Review. The event is organized by Zgorzelec’s “Number Twelve” school, and on stage we will also be able to see, among others, children from Preschool No. 2, Preschool No. 4 and Preschool No. 9. Will there be others too? We will find out; those listed have been rehearsing on our stage since Tuesday ;) The review begins at 9 a.m..

And finally, we have a warm invitation for everyone for Saturday. At 6:30 p.m., Ukrainian instrumentalists Andreya Fesenko and Alexandra Burdyuga will begin an accordion concert. The programme includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini, polonaises by Michał Kazimierz Ogiński and fiery tangos by Astor Piazzolla. The concert will take place in the MDK foyer, where, in addition to the unusual setting, the remarkable acoustics enhance the musical experience. Admission is free!

P.S. In addition to cultural events, several important meetings will also be held under the green dome this week. On Monday and Tuesday, these will be meetings of the Zgorzelec Housing Cooperative (at 4 p.m.). On Tuesday, Mayor Rafał Gronicz has scheduled another consultation meeting with residents here. This time it will concern the third stage of the revitalization of the town centre (4 p.m.). Meanwhile, training sessions for members of election commissions will be held under our roof on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m.; after all, in May we will elect the President of the Republic of Poland!

On Thursday, German doctors from the Sachsische Landesarztekammer will organize a scientific conference here.

So, as you can see, there are plenty of events and activities. We invite you!
