Officers from the Criminal Division of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters detained a group of people suspected of committing at least 20 offenses. Police findings indicate that over the past two months, all three committed or attempted to commit the theft of seven transformers worth more than PLN 80,000. The thieves targeted medium-voltage devices used to supply electricity to towns in Bolesławiec and Złotoryja counties. Those detained are two residents of Bolesławiec County, aged 23 and 28, and a 27-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County.
In the course of further investigations, officers determined that the same perpetrators had committed a number of other offenses in Bolesławiec County, including the theft of a vehicle, car tires, 50 sets of transport straps, clothing from containers, motorway posts and 15 pallets. The losses amounted to several thousand złotys.
Police recovered some of the stolen property, including the car, tires and transport straps. Moreover, the 28-year-old will also face charges for several fuel thefts. At a petrol station, the man filled a canister with diesel fuel and never paid for the goods.
The total losses caused by the gang’s criminal activities were initially estimated at more than PLN 100,000. The investigation is ongoing.
All three could face up to 10 years in prison.
